First Intuition ESG

At FI we recognise the need for businesses to be responsible. As we educate the next generation of professionals it is our job to promote the importance of business as a force for good. We hope to do this by demonstrating strong ESG values in everything we do.

Whilst we’ve always embraced strong values at FI, we’re at the start of our journey in formalising our ESG activities and setting challenging targets to take these forwards as the FI Group grows. We’re proud of the progress we have made to date, but we recognise that there’s still lots to do. To that end – our ESG Team have been working to set some challenging targets for the year ahead.

What is ESG?

ESG is a framework for measuring a business’s impact on society, the environment and how transparent or accountable it is.

Environmental

Managing our CO2 emissions, monitoring the impact of our supply chain, and reducing the waste which we create.

Social

Promoting equality and diversity, the well-being of those we interact with, and our volunteering and community work.

Governance

How we embed key values such as ESG in our practices, how we promote inclusivity at senior management level, and how we operate our business ethically.

Our ESG Journey – Where are we now?

A recent review carried out by independent experts recognises the progress we have made so far and helped us to set targets for what we need to do next.
Take a look at our 2024/2025 key priorities below:

Social

Our strongest area is our investment in our people, which contributed to us being named in the Sunday Times Best Places to Work in 2024. We will continue to invest in the training and development of our team and to make sure that our pay and benefits exceed those offered in our market.

First Intuition can evidence exemplary ESG practices across various dimensions within the areas of social responsibility and corporate governance.”

  • We’ll continue to grow our network-wide EDI group who look at ways to promote ethnic diversity and inclusion within our workplace.
  • We’ll seek to promote social mobility within apprenticeships and in the financial sector.
  • We’ll continue to review gender equality in the workplace.
  • We’ll extend and promote our community volunteering policy and charitable activities.

Environment

We have commissioned a carbon and sustainability report to help us to understand our emissions and impact. This will form the basis of our targets for 2025.

  • We already use renewable energy in many of our offices, but we’re working with our landlords to increase the use of solar and renewables.
  • We’re working to reduce our carbon emissions by 20% in Q4 2025, and to work towards a 50% reduction by 2030. We aim to be carbon neutral in 2050.
  • We’re working to reduce the waste created in each of our centres by an average of 20%.
  • We’ll engage with our key suppliers to make sure that we understand and manage the environmental impact of our supply chain.

Governance

We have developed an ESG policy, terms of reference and delivery plan which will support our progress towards excellence in 2025.

We have appointed a Board-level Project Sponsor and an ESG Champion to lead the newly formed group-wide ESG Team who represent all areas of the business. This team will meet every six weeks and work on implementing establishing clear routes to staying on track with our strategy.

  • We’ve set up an ESG Team to promote ESG within the FI Group.
  • The ESG Team reports quarterly to our Board and to our investors so that we can track our progress.
  • We’ll regularly report on our progress and share reports with our stakeholders.

Having commissioned an external ESG review recently we are much clearer on our strengths which we need to build on, but also areas where we can improve. I am excited to see how FI continues to develop in this area and how we can ensure our clients, suppliers, students and team members all help us along this journey.
