In this article, Roz Allen discusses her journey to completing AAT Level 2 in just 10 weeks, achieving 96%.
How I Completed AAT Level 2 in 10 Weeks: Roz’s Step-by-Step Journey
I recently completed AAT level 2. I managed to achieve this in about 10 weeks with a final grade of 96%. Due to being off work for a significant period of time due to health reasons and a major operation, it seemed the perfect time to get stuck into retraining to start a new career. I decided to study level 2 to start with, with the idea of progressing onto levels 3 and 4 if I did ok.
Structuring My Study Days
I completed this so quickly by treating my days like a work day, getting up at a specific time, timetabling my day into sections, with breaks. I generally worked about 5-6 hours a day, having evenings and weekends off.
For each module I generally took about a week to learn the material. I worked through each chapter (about two chapters a day), watching the online videos with the course material, and then made cue cards containing key information that could be used for revision, and completed the online assignments as I went along.
Revision and Practice
I then spent another week going back through the course material and my cue cards, before completing the practice questions and doing mock papers before the exam. By doing this I took 2-3 weeks per module, achieving the qualification in about 10 weeks.
I found the planner provided by First Institution invaluable in this as it really helped to structure my time. I would also recommend to anyone else studying AATs to do all the practice questions and mock exams provided, they really did help. I would normally book the exam after I completed the course material. I would book it for about a week or so later, giving myself this time to revise and practice for the exam.
Staying Motivated
It ensured I had this date to work towards which kept the pressure on myself. I found keeping this momentum going helped my studies. I found it easier trying to complete it quickly as it kept the material fresh in my mind. I think if I’d only done a chapter or half a chapter every few days, I would have found it harder to get motivated to do the work, and would have found it slower having to recall information from previous sessions.
Future Plans
My next steps are AAT level 3 which I am now getting stuck into and should be in a position to get back into work before long, hopefully using my new qualifications!
