Level 7 apprentice Annabelle’s journey with FI

Annabelle, a Level 7 Apprentice with First Intuition, shares how her love of numbers led her to a career in accountancy. In this video, she discusses why she chose an apprenticeship, what she’s learned, and her advice for newcomers.

Why choose an apprenticeship?

For Annabelle, the decision to take on a Level 7 Accounting Apprenticeship felt like the perfect next step. Having always enjoyed maths and working with numbers, she wanted to build on her previous experience while continuing to learn. The apprenticeship route offered the flexibility she was looking for, allowing her to gain valuable work experience while studying towards her qualification.

How has learning with FI made a difference?

Annabelle has found both the qualification and the on-the-job learning to be hugely rewarding. Her studies in tax, audit, and assurance have built a strong technical base. Skills days, along with leadership and management training, have helped her grow in areas such as communication, resilience, and problem-solving.

How does FI support apprentices throughout their journey?

One of the things Annabelle values most about her apprenticeship is the support she’s received from her employer and FI. Through her learning support plan and access to mental health first aiders, she’s been able to balance her wellbeing alongside her studies and work commitments. Knowing that support is always there has been fantastic.

Advice for future apprentices

Annabelle’s main piece of advice for anyone starting their apprenticeship is to stay organised and keep on top of things. Regularly speaking with her skills coach also helped her, and she explains how setting aside time at weekends to catch up on work helped her avoid things piling up, especially around exam time.

She also recommends understanding the purpose behind each task or piece of development work, as this makes it easier to see how everything links together when completing the final stages of her apprenticeship.

Looking ahead

Looking to the future, Annabelle plans to continue her career with her current firm. Beyond that, she also hopes to explore opportunities in teaching, potentially as a tutor with First Intuition. Her story is a great example of how apprenticeships can open doors, build confidence and help shape a fulfilling career.
