Implementation
All of our learners benefit from structured professional training, using clear and targeted learning resources delivered by qualified accountants. We don’t discriminate in our teaching between those on apprenticeship programmes and those choosing an exam only route.
Our apprentices however have monthly progress reviews with their FI skills coach and their line manager where the progression from their initial assessment is discussed and clear targets set for the next quarter.
In addition, the apprenticeship programme includes our Impact Skills Programme that ensures that apprentices have the opportunity to develop knowledge, skills and behaviours to support them as they move through their early careers. These include workshop sessions, development tasks and additional online support resources.
Impact
For all of our learners at the end of the three-year programme, we achieve pass rates above the average for the ICAEW.
Interestingly, however, there is a consistent uplift of pass rates for those who have followed an apprenticeship programme to those who have studied the qualification only.
Given this pattern across 3 sittings, there is a clear degree of value added to the programme by having more formal and regular check-ins and investing in development outside of a professional qualification.
Conclusion
These are interesting observations for those considering whether to use the apprenticeship programme to support employee development and certainly one that we will continue to track as more of our learners complete their level 7 programme.
