What is SEO?
Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) is about leading more traffic to your website. This is done by anticipating what the user will be searching for and matching their needs with relevant content. In other words, it is about placing your business high on the search engine so customers are more likely to find you.
The history of SEO
SEO has been, throughout the digital marketing era, one of the most iconic techniques to make a name online and eventually drive traffic towards your site, blog or any digital asset.
I would argue that this is first and foremost an Art, as you try to guess what the wide audience needs, what problems they will try to solve and how they ask for help. In other words, it is a game of emotions. You need to sense the market and how your product or service could be a good fit.
As the era rose to maturity, another aspect surfaced, competitors! With more and more businesses now able to access the internet, the competition for ranking higher on search engines has never been more intense. Advertising and rising sales shed light on the lucrative side of digital marketing. New tools and software systems also started to emerge.
From then on Science comes to play. Highly intelligent AI’s will deliver a multitude of data to digital marketers. Data includes: popularity of a search term in a certain region at specific calendar seasons, the competitiveness of that term, methods to capture entire phrases or questions a person poses and so on.
As more and more companies compete for the same piece of the market, the question is which of those should be in the most prominent position of a search engine, a technology tightly tied with SEO right from the beginning. The founders of Google have developed intelligent algorithms, to bring to us –the audience – the most relevant, valuable and timely product, service or information from the vastness of digital records.
