AAT Apprenticeships with First Intuition

Accounting apprenticeships are a fantastic way to start your career in accountancy!

AAT is often seen as an entry level qualification and is perfect for school leavers or for someone who is just starting out in a finance role. It is well known as a qualification but also provides a basis for further studies with all the professional bodies granting exemptions for completion of level 4 AAT. An apprentice who has completed AAT should have a good understanding of basic accounting and is able to operate as a bookkeeper or in an industry environment.

What level of apprenticeships do we offer at First Intuition?

  • Level 3 – Assistant Accountant (AAT level 3)
    – this usually takes between 15-18 months to complete
    – equivalent to 2 A-level passes (to be accepted you should ideally have grade C or above in Maths and English)
Jobs include: Accounts Administrator, Accounts Payable Clerk, Bookkeeper, Payroll Officer, Purchase/Sales Ledger Clerk, Tax Assistant/Trainee
  • Level 4 – Professional Accounting (AAT level 4, ACCA, ATT, CFAB & CIMA)
    – this usually takes between 15-18 months to complete
    – equivalent to a foundation degree (to be accepted you should have a level 3 qualification, such as A-levels, or have completed a level 3 apprenticeship)
Jobs include: Accounts Assistant, Audit Trainee, Assistant Financial Accountant, Credit Controller, Cost Accountant, Indirect Tax Manager, Finance Assistant, Payroll Manager/Supervisor/Assistant, Tax Supervisor/Assistant, VAT Accountant

Once students complete their AAT qualification, they can continue onto Level 7 (ACCA, CIMA, ICAEW & CTA) to become a fully qualified accountant. By completing AAT, students will be exempt from the lower level papers at all level 7 programmes, meaning students can complete their Level 7 Apprenticeship in 2 years.

The Level 7 Apprenticeship is equivalent to a Master’s degree. There are various qualification entry points for a Level 7 apprenticeship, so please contact your nearest centre for further information.
Jobs include: Tax Advisor, Audit Manager, Corporate Finance Manager, Financial Director, Accountancy Tutor, Insolvency Manager.

What is included in our apprenticeship scheme?

  • Induction days – this is to make sure that the apprentice understands the programme and the systems which they will use throughout the programme.
  • Skills days – these are interactive business skills days operated by our skills coaches. These coaching sessions are aimed to help apprentices develop their skills, all tasks set by the skills coaches will be suited to the level  and experience of the attendees.
  • Progress reviews with your Skills Coach – the apprentice will be allocated a skills coach and will have quarterly reviews to assess their progress towards the skills and behaviours required for the apprenticeship standards. Our Skills Coaches are there to assist with any difficulties during the apprenticeship.
  • Submitting a portfolio – the apprentice will be expected to submit reflective tasks during the first year to demonstrate their workplace experiences and to encourage them to develop the reflective skills needed to complete the apprenticeship.
  • End-point assessment – to complete the apprenticeship the apprentice will need to complete a final case study exam to assess their knowledge. This will usually be set by the end assessment organisation affiliated to the relevant professional body.
